Introduction
Harry Potter and his friends, Ron and Hermione, return to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for their fourth year. The Triwizard Tournament
Harry is underage and ineligible to compete in the Triwizard Tournament, but his name is mysteriously entered into the goblet of fire. Despite his protests, Harry is forced to compete in the tournament.
The First Task
The first task of the Triwizard Tournament is to face a dragon and retrieve a golden egg. Harry is able to complete the task with the help of his friends and a Hungarian Horntail egg.
The Second Task
The second task of the Triwizard Tournament is to rescue a loved one from the depths of the Black Lake. Harry is able to complete the task with the help of Gillyweed, a magical plant that allows him to breathe underwater.
The Third Task
The third and final task of the Triwizard Tournament is to navigate a maze full of traps and obstacles. Harry and Cedric Diggory, another Hogwarts student, are tied for first place when they reach the end of the maze. However, they are transported to a graveyard, where they are attacked by Voldemort.
Voldemort’s Return
Voldemort kills Cedric and attempts to kill Harry, but Harry is able to escape. Harry returns to Hogwarts with Cedric’s body and informs Dumbledore that Voldemort has returned.

It is the first book in which Harry confronts Voldemort directly, and it is the book in which Harry realizes that Voldemort is a real and dangerous threat.
